Sales
for the year ended came to €539.1M, down by 3.3%.
France fell by 4.4% with international sales down
by 1.6% following contrasting performances in the different countries
: growth in Belgium, pratically flat in the UK and falls in Switzerland
and Japan.
The declines in sales in France, the company's biggest
market, comes mainly after slow consumer spending in textiles due
to the poor weather conditions (exceptionally warm for the whole
of the autumn-winter season, followed by exceptionally cold temperatures
at the end of the spring-summer season). Futhermore, the base effect
was unfavourable at the end of the year because the big promotional
campaigns run over the same period last year were not renewed.
All these negative factors combine to explain the
fall in the last quater that eclipsed the success of the new collections
after an excellent start to the spring-summer season.
As announced in the published half yearly
accounts, results for the second half should be up on last year
for the same period. However, this increase will not be enoughto
make up for the loss recorded in the first half.
