The Damartex group's turnover
grew by 4.1% in the first half of 2003/2004. The increase was 7.1%
at constant exchange rates
These
results confirm the trend observed in the first three months of
the year. Growth in group sales accelerated in the second quarter,
which accounted for 64% of first-half turnover, even though weather
conditions were less favourable for our thermal product line than
last year.
Sales in France rose by 8.2%. The strong performance
was confirmed in mail-order sales and store sales increased significantly.
Internet sales, although still small, posted double-digit growth,
which holds promise for the future.
In Belgium, where the majority of sales are made
through the store network, turnover grew strongly in the second
quarter bringing growth for the first half to almost 3%. Sales in
Switzerland dropped by 11% after rising by 71% in 2002/2003.
The performance in Japan improved in the second quarter.
At constant scope and exchange rates, first-half sales were down
by 6.9% compared with the same period the previous year, when they
had recorded growth of 16%.
Sales grew by 12.6% at constant exchange rates
in Great Britain.
